Congratulations to Durham resident Lucille Ervin on celebrating her 108th birthday! Ms. Ervin moved from South Carolina to Durham more than 80 years ago. She credits her long, prosperous life to her faith in God, to her congregation at St. Mark AME Zion Church, and to nonprofit A Helping Hand. A Helping Hand provides Ms. Ervin with companion care. We celebrated along with Ms. Ervin’s family and friends. Check out that birthday cake! Durham’s seniors have wisdom and knowledge to offer current generations. Thankfully, the Museum of Durham History has created a story room to capture memories and stories from our seniors. Click here to listen to an interview from Ms. Ervin.
Thanks to WUNC-FM, The Herald-Sun, the Durham News, WTVD and WNCN for covering this important story. A Helping Hand and the Museum of Durham History play significant roles in helping our seniors age in place with dignity.
